Travel Rewards card review
The Platinum Card® from American Express
The most credit-heavy card on the market. It only makes sense if you will genuinely use the Resy, Uber, hotel and entertainment credits.

Benefits and credits
- $600 hotel credit Up to $300 January–June and $300 July–December on Fine Hotels + Resorts (any length of stay) or The Hotel Collection (two nights minimum), booked through Amex Travel. The booking has to process inside the period to count.
- $400 Resy credit Up to $100 per quarter at US Resy restaurants. Enrollment required.
- $300 entertainment credit $25 a month across eligible streaming and entertainment services. Enrollment required.
- $300 Lululemon credit $75 per quarter. Enrollment required.
- $200 airline fee credit One airline selected each calendar year. Covers incidentals, not airfare.
- $200 Uber Cash + $120 Uber One Uber Cash is issued monthly and does not roll over.
- $200 Oura credit Requires a paid Oura subscription. Enrollment required.
- Lounge access Centurion Lounges, Delta Sky Club when flying Delta, Priority Pass Select, Escape and Plaza Premium. Guest rules differ by network and have tightened in recent years.
- Hotel status Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite and Hilton Honors Gold, both by enrollment.
- Global Entry or TSA PreCheck Fee credit roughly every four to four and a half years.
Restrictions worth knowing
- Amex applies a once-per-lifetime rule to welcome bonuses on a given card product.
- Most credits are use-it-or-lose-it inside a month, quarter or half-year. The headline value assumes you use every one.
- Several credits require separate enrollment before they pay out.
How to use it well
- Treat the fee as $895 minus only the credits you would have spent money on anyway. A Lululemon credit you would not otherwise use is not worth $300 to you.
- Pair with a card that earns well on everyday categories. Outside flights and Amex Travel hotels, the Platinum earns 1x.
- Membership Rewards points transfer to airline and hotel partners. Transfers are one-way and cannot be reversed.
- If you mostly want lounge access and dining rewards without the credit admin, the Amex Gold or a Capital One Venture X is usually the better fit.
